One of the must-visit-in-autumn places located in Hakone definitely is Sengokuhara Pampas Grass Fields. Its beauty lies in the golden pampas swaying and shining brightly like golden waves as far as the eye can see. The promenade you’ll find there is the only one, so you won’t have to fear of getting lost somewhere along the way. As you walk right next to the beautiful pampas grass, you're sure to be greatly surprised as you discover some of it is as tall as you are! As you go further on down the path, you’ll reach a small hill somewhere in the middle of it - climb it, and behold the mountains, such as Mount Kintoki, as well as the wetland, stretching far in front of you, co-existing with the pampas in breathtaking harmony. You can visit every year from late September to early November. During the period from the middle to the end of March, the pampas gets engulfed in flames, due to the annual yama-yaki ritual (mountain-burning) that helps preserve nature. This powerful scenery is another speciality of Hakone.
