About the Freepass

Q.

Where can I buy the Hakone Freepass?

A.

The Hakone Freepass can be purchased at ticket vending machines at all Odayu Line stations, or at the Shinjuku Station or Odawara Station Odakyu Sightseeing Service Centers.
You can also buy the pass in the Hakone area at major stations (Hakone-Yumoto Station, Gora Station, Sounzan Station).

How do I get to the Izu Hakone area (Hakone-en Gardens) using the Hakone Freepass?

A.

Take the Hakone Tozan Bus (T line) from Hakone-Yumoto Station for about 34 minutes, then get off at Togendai to transfer to the Odakyu Hakone Highway Bus (W line bound for Hakone-en).

What is the weather like in Hakone?

A.

A. Average temperatures in the Hakone-Yumoto area are: 15℃ in spring, 25℃ in summer, 15℃ in fall, and 7℃ in winter.
However, Lake Ashi, Owakudani, and high-elevation areas are around 3-4℃ lower than other regions.

What should I wear in Hakone (all seasons)?

A.

Spring: The average March temperatures are comparable with Tokyo, however, some days require a thick coat. April and May are warm, but bring a jacket just in case.
Summer: You can wear short sleeves but bring a light cardigant just in case.
Fall: Wear long-sleeve shirts and cardigans. A thick coat is necessary on certain days.
Winter: You will need a thick coat. Prepare for the cold by wearing layers, as the elevation varies.

The Hakone Tozan Taxi platform is located in front of the information centers at Hakone-Yumoto, Gora, Togendai, and Sengokuhara stations.
You can also make a reservation over the phone.

How much is a taxi between Odawara Station and the Hakone area?

A. Fares listed do not include the use of expressways.
Hakone-Yumoto area: around 2,500 yen (Hakone Tozan Railway, Hakone-Yumoto Station)
Gora Area: around 5,700 yen (Hakone Tozan Railway, Gora Station)
Sengokuhara Area: around 7,500 yen (Sengokuhara branch), Togendai Area: around 9,100 yen (Hakone Ropeway Togendai Station)
Hakonemachi Area: around 7,300 yen (Hakone Sightseeing Cruise Hakonemachi-ko).

How do I cross Lake Ashi without using the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise?

1) By Taxi:
Ride a Hakone Tozan taxi from Togendai Station (around 25 minutes).
You can make a reservation via phone.

You cannot.
You must store your luggage somewhere.
For a fee you can use the coin lockers at each station or store your belongings at the station office.
