The Hakone Tozan Cablecar, which went
into operation in 1922, runs 1.2 kilometers between Gora and Sounzan, with a difference in altitude of 214 m. The smart-looking cars, painted red, black and white, made their debut on the line in March 1995. They climb the hill, whose steepest incline is 200/1000. With two cars, 250 passengers can board at the same time. Through the wide, curved windshield, Mount Kami is visible ahead, along with Mount Myojogatake with its popular Daimonji-yaki Bonfire, and other peaks of the Hakone Range. This line has four stations, for visitors to Gora Park, the Hakone Museum of Art, Hakone Sounzan Museum and also for people staying at Japanese inns and private recreation facilities.
The trip between Gora and Sounzan takes approximately 9 minutes.
The Hakone Freepass is an economical and convenient way of traveling in Hakone on the Hakone Tozan Cablecar.
